Methodology: State of Creation by FromFinn

– Hi Fionn ! Where do you come from ??
Originally I hail from Canada but I recently moved to the States.
– How old are you ??
Look here mister I’m 22, now don’t go blabbing that to everyone.
– Influences ??
You know the first thing people would assume on what influences me the most must be movies such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, to an extent they wouldn’t be wrong. Although the stuff that I gather the most influence is from Theodore Sturgeon’s science fiction books and old sci-fi magazine covers. Other then that, some rockin’ electronic music is definitely used as a foundation on the stuff that I do; synesthesia type of stuff.

– Art school or not ??
Nope. Without trying to sound pretentious, I have been teaching myself slowly on how to draw since I was very young; among other things. I never really had the luxuries or opportunities as others have had. On the contrary, I was lucky enough to have a lot of time to research and learn the stuff I always wanted to do at a young age.
– Favorite digital art software ??
Photoshop! Believe it or not, I used to get major flack for this before it became cool to do illustrations and what have you on it.
– Your working method ??
This is somewhat of a difficult question for me to articulate properly without having myself trail off to a different subject; however, I do believe I could give a good summarized version of it. You know that to every story there is a hook and to every hook there must be a bait, right? For me, it’s backwards. I usually think of the bait first and then later having the hook come to mind in fragments. Afterwords, I can manipulate and form a story, placing the hooks where I want them to be while working around in conjunction with the bait. Think of it as if you were making a trailer for a movie. The same concept is applied in artwork for your comic as well, you just have to work backwards… Well, at least I do anyways.
– What your webcomic is about, in a symbolic way, the hidden sense ??
Methodology; the webcomic, is quite profound at first glance. Honestly, there’s been many fan theories and interpretations of what’s the deep meaning of the story. I couldn’t tell you anymore then what’s already shown, a story about a empty planet that births into life, a manufactured will-less species that involuntary dies for it to happen, and one of them to be unlucky enough to see it happen. There is a much bigger picture present that reveals itself in other books that will eventually come out. Methodology; the book itself, can be treated as it’s own entity for the time being, even without having the feeling that it was left unfinished or unfulfilled.

– How do you see your future ??
In the future I would’ve most likely moved on from webcomics and focus on the stuff that interests me more. I have already more or less created a company that will focus more into interactive entertainment.
– Your next goal ??
I like to express more of myself in different mediums, including learning newer traits. As like I mentioned it before, I taught myself how to draw and write. But I managed to teach myself much more with the stuff I was interested in, such as: animation, programming, film editing, cinematography, design, belly-scratching, and recently composing. Since finding help is expensive and I’m forced to be independent, I became or slowly becoming the one-man-army by default.
– Advices for beginners ??
– Expect the worst, there’s many obstacles in life that’ll try to render you unfit to finish your project. No matter how long it might take, you will achieve your goal; the key is persistence.
– Learn to take criticism, no one is infallible so take it for granted that 90% of the “harsh” critiques you’ll get actually DO have a point.
– Don’t go expecting money to roll in, doing something that you enjoy and knowing that many if not someone out there enjoys your work is it’s own reward.
– Be patient, my young grasshopper.
– Your technical secret trick ??
Working backwards.

Introverse by Brandon Bradshaw

Hi Brandon !?Where do you come from ??
I’m from the cornfield filled glacier known as Ohio.

– How old are you ?
20
– Influences ??
Personally the soft lull of Cthulhu whispers ideas into my head but I also take influence from Owlturd and Beefpaper!
– Art school or not ??
Nah but I’m going to community college.
– Favorite digital art software ??
Definitely Paint Tool Sai! The stabilizer helps so much with making nice lines and I also like how easy it is to customize brushes. Sometimes if I’m bored I like just trying brush settings I find online.
– Your working method ??
I make everything digitally.
– What your webcomic is about, in a symbolic way, the hidden sense ??
At it’s core Introverse is a extroverted comic for extroverted people. Always talking about the joys of life and carefree living.

– How do you see your future ??
I see myself swimming in a vault of gold patreon coins like Scrooge McDuck, living the easy life. (Or working at McDonald’s making webcomics)
– Your next goal ??
My goal when I started was to get like a thousand followers so I guess now a million would be good? People always say not to focus on followers or money… but I do haha
– Advices for beginners ??
Just start making comics. A lot of people are waiting till they get better or when the timing is right but the best time to start is now. I always think of the quote Jake from Adventure Time says, “Sucking at something is the first step towards being sorta good at something.”
– Your technical secret trick ??
I guess the stabilizer is my secret trick. It really makes lineart easy but I would make sure that you can also draw without it.

Wally?s World by Randy Heeren

– Hi Randy ! Where do you come from ??
Kansas
– How old are you ??
26
– Influences ??
One Piece, Princess Mononoke, Berserk, Death Note
– Art school or not ?
No
– Favorite digital art software ??
N/A
– Your working method ??
I wrote my script, drew the storyboards, then hired an artist to draw the actual pages.
– What your webcomic is about, in a symbolic way, the hidden sense ?
I wanted to shine a light on the sheer grandeur and innocence of a young boy’s imagination. I wanted to tell kids to use their minds and be creators instead of just consumers.

?– How do you see your future ??

I hope to work for animation studios in the Los Angeles/Burbank area.
– Your next goal ??
Trying to make more contacts in the animation industry.
– Advices for beginners ??
When trying to accomplish your goals, try to leave your mood out of it. It is very easy to get discouraged and feel paralyzed. You have to train yourself to not let things get you down and just focus on the work that you can control.
– Your technical secret trick ??
You’re probably better off asking the artist I hired: https://www.artstation.com/artist/erikly
