Adventures with Capt’n Heroic: Jonathan Greer Unmasked !

5/5 - (1 vote)

Have you ever dreamed to be a mix of Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne in the real life ?

Drawing the adventures of a super antihero just to let off stream, and preserve your secret ? Jonathan Greer is that guy !

When the creator is the hero, the fictional main character is the cover identity ! It must be cool to be Jonathan Greer ! Meet the artist behind Capt’n Heroic.

Hi Jonathan, welcome on Art Of Webcomics !

– Where do you come from ??
North Carolina, USA
– How old are you ? ( tell it or not !)?
34
– Influences ?
Family Guy, Rick and Morty, Religion, Comicbooks
– Art school or not ??
Degree in Graphic Design, which doesn’t really count
– Favorite digital art software ??
Photoshop and Illustrator
– Your working method ??
Procrastinate, procrastinate, prcrastinate… But when I do manage to get to work, I always start out with a story outline. Once I get that down, I’ll break it up into smaller scenes and start some really rough story boards. Then I’ll take my story board and flesh out the art scene by scene. So if one scene is 5 pages, I’ll clean all the art up for all 5 pages. I start in photoshop, and then take the roughs to illustrator to do my line work. Then back to photoshop for color. Then back to illustrator for speech bubbles. All through this process i make edits and change things around. I tend to get long winded, so I use each step to try to condense my dialogue and story.
– What your webcomic is about, in a symbolic way, the hidden sense ??
It’s about enjoying life! I guess. I don’t really know. But Capt’n Heroic is the kid in all of us. He is a grown man physically, but he lacks life experience and just wants to be a kid. The silent knight is the opposite, life has jaded him and he is pretty bitter… towards everything.
– Tell us more about your main character, the hero !

Capt’n Heroic was a mistake. The world was in turmoil and God created a hero to send down to save the day.

In the process, he also created 2 reject heroes. (god has been out of practice for a while). Well, Capt’n Heroic was one of the reject heroes and was accidentally sent down to Earth instead of the real hero. Sorry Earth! So now, he is supposed to be saving the world, but all he really wants to do is be the kid he never was. He’s always getting into some silly shenanigans and pissing off his partner: Silent Knight.
– How do you see your future ??
Who knows. I’m wide open to anything. I spent the past 6 years as a Graphic Designer in NYC, and now i’m in Virginia and I just signed up for classes at a community college to get a degree in Engineering.

In a few more years, who knows, maybe I’ll run for president… or better yet, maybe I’ll be a super villain and take over the world!

– Your next goal ??
I REALLY want to get Adventures with Capt’n Heroic turned into an animated series. I plan on taking Chapter 3 (untitled) to Frederator studios, and see if they will help in this process!
– Advices for beginners ??
Just do it. Keep drawing, keep writing, and make sure you enjoy it. It’s going to be hard. You may have2 people reading your comic for the first year. maybe 0, who knows, but do it because you want to do it.
– Your technical secret trick ??
I don’t think I have any tricks. I just do what works for me. I wouldn’t consider them tricks. One thing I’ve tried doing as far as writing goes, is I base my stories off of the “Save the Cat” method. If you haven’t read that book, it’s great, check it out. It’s made for screenplays, but can be used in most any genre.
– Favorite quote ??
“Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.”
