The Electric Rose : Our interview with BlacQueen !
Looking for some new breathtaking epic story ? Elysia, Karina, and Lorin are the new iconic characters you need to escape of our world !
The Electric Rose is a gift from BlacQueen aka Kiara Williams.
Hello Kiara, welcome on Art Of Webcomics !
– Where do you come from ?
Columbia, SC, USA
– How old are you ? (tell it or not !)
20 < my age < 30
– Influences ?
CLAMP, Persona, Sailor Moon, lot of magical girl stuff here and there
– Art school or not ?
It wasn’t an Art School but I majored in Illustration at Winthrop University.
– Favorite digital art software ?
I used Paint Tool Sai and Photoshop mostly.
– Your working method ?
I write my script so that it’s way ahead of what I have drawn (about 2 chapters or so). I do each step for every page all at once. I sketch every page, then ink every page and then tone (or color) and then dialogue.
– What your webcomic is about, in a symbolic way, the hidden sense ?
It’s about seeing life in different perspectives, seeing interactions between women in different kinds of relationships, and coming to terms with death.
– Tell us more about your main character, the hero !
Elysia Shaw is kind, if a bit spoiled. She’s always wanted to be a hero but has always gone about it a bit wrong. Becoming a Guardian allows her ability to fight to have a purpose, while also seeing the consequences of being the hero she’s wanted to be. She also discovers a lot of things about herself along the way to uncorrupting the old Guardians, and may also gain a girlfriend along the way? 😉
– How do you see your future ?
I’d like to be able to talk to more people about my story. I know it’s still in progress and I know I’m still new at the comicking thing, but I would like to have some readers to interact with, whether only online or in person! I would also like to expand the merchandise list for the comic.
– Your next goal ?
Meeting my first Patreon goal so that I can focus more on the comic. Maybe I’ll be able to do all my pages in color then huehuehuehuehue.
– Advices for beginners ?
Take it slow. Love what you do and don’t rely on gaining an audience immediately. If you’re stumped, go get inspired. Learn from your betters. Do research.
– Your technical secret trick ?
I fill in all my foreground objects with one color and then I do my flat colors. It helps make gaps between my colors less noticeable. Clipping masks in order to test color changes makes it super quick and easy.
