Conduit : Inside the mind of Oliver McGlory ![:]
“Simon is an amateur paranormal investigator being haunted by a monster.”
Here begins our journey with Conduit, the unavoidable webcomic by Oliver McGlory !
Hi Oliver !
– Where do you come from ??
I am from Massachusetts in the USA but I currently am living in the countryside of Japan.
– How old are you ??
29
– Influences ??
Oof, so many! McBess, Jamie Hewlett, Jhonen Vasquez, Don Bluth and a ton of awesome webcomic artists.
– Art school or not ??
Yes, I went to school for Illustration.
– Favorite digital art software ??
Uhhh, if I have to pick, probably just good ol photoshop! But I rarely work digitally.
– Your working method ??
I drink about 6 coffees, blast some dance music and then splash black ink on a gigantic piece of bristol paper (and also have more coffee).
– What your webcomic is about, in a symbolic way, the hidden sense ??
Conduit is about living with mental illness and trauma, and how to deal with these issues in any relationship; friendship or otherwise.
– Tell us more about your main character, the hero !?
There are two main characters in the comic: Simon Bagans and Chakor Khwabgah. Simon is an amateur ghost hunter who is being haunted by a violent ghost, and Chakor is his internet friend who just happens to be the leader of a ghost hunting team. Chakor hopes to help Simon defeat his demons, and uses his own unique powers to assist him. The two share equal time in the spotlight of the story, and also happen to be dating.
– How do you see your future ??
The comic is planned to have around 20 chapters, filled with all sorts of powerful ghosts and creepy crawlies. I’m hoping to be able to create a story that sheds a different light on mental illness in a horror setting.
– Your next goal ??
Chapter 3 is wrapping up very soon, and I’m excited to head into page 100 and the beginning of the next chapter!
– Advices for beginners ??
I have had an incredibly difficult time producing a webcomic while battling with my own demons. If I could tell you anything, it would be to work hard and work steady; but remember to take care of yourself. Your readers will always support you, and you should take the time to make comics and pages that you really love.
– Your technical secret trick ??
Always ink from the left side of the page if you’re right handed, and the right side if you’re left handed. Don’t smudge!
